Bucom’s Tips to Working from Home

bucom-WFH-min

After weeks of our daily routines being drastically turned upside down, it’s time to accept that this is the new normal. Many of us are working from home; for some of us this is a big change and we are still figuring out where to find a printer, some regularly work remote and have a home office, and others are used to working on a plane or from a hotel and always changing scenery. Either way, our days look different, maybe a little stressful, and we are all continuing to adjust.

The Bucom team is made up of a combination of the above scenarios and we are here to bring you back to the basics, remind you to take it one day at a time, and to encourage you that we are all in this together.

Bucom’s tips to working from home:

  • Stick to a routine – Start your day on time as you would if you were in the office, schedule calendar invites, and make an attainable to-do list.
  • Get moving – Schedule time to exercise and get your body moving. Whether it’s a walk around your home, an online workout class, or a quick run. It’s important to get some movement throughout the day.
  • Claim your space – Differentiate your work space and your home space. Pick a spot that you don’t use for lounging or decompressing. Designate this spot as your home office. It is also important to have a “logging off” routine for the day.
  • Dress to impress – Get dressed for the day in whatever makes you feel most productive, not the pajamas you slept in!
  • Take a break – Take a break and clear your head. Tell your coworkers that you are taking a break so they know to give you space and so you don’t feel guilty about not responding right away. If you have a pet, taking the dog for a walk is the perfect mid-day break activity.
  • Accept help – this may be tricky as we are to shelter-in-place, but if you have family who can help watch your kids or a spouse also working from home, trade off fair chunks of time so you can get your work done.
  • Stay connected – Staying connected with your coworkers, family, and friends is key. Whether it’s a daily office conference call, a Zoom happy hour with friends, a FaceTime with your parents, or a weekly roundup e-mail, sharing thoughts, experiences and ideas will keep us inspired!
